Having just watched an Errol Flynn film on The Charge of the Light Brigade -- where the creators were very liberal with the facts -- I began thinking once more on the history of military uniforms, and the fact that, at least to this civilian, styles in the U.K and U.S. seem to have remained fairly constant since at least World War II (if not before), whereas there appears to have been a great deal of change and variety in the preceding centuries. Is this true? And if so, what possibly accounts for the current lack of sartorial imagination?
